Our Cornish youngsters have the opportunity to deliver their message to World Leaders, in the form of a ‘Welcome Card’ for the G7 Summit in Carbis Bay. I’m sure the selected entry will have to be polite and constructive, and I know our youngster have the creativity to deliver a powerful message, within those constraints! Below is a press release explaining how to can take part.

The Prime Minister will be choosing a poem and works of art submitted by young people in Cornwall to create a card to welcome world leaders to the G7 Summit in June.

Cornwall Council has teamed up with the Cabinet Office to launch two competitions: one for primary aged children and the other for secondary aged children.

The younger age group will be invited to submit artwork around the theme of climate change and preserving biodiversity.

The older age group will be asked to write a poem on the same subjects. All the entries will be assessed by a judging panel in Cornwall before Downing Street has the final say on the winner. 

Cornwall Council Service Director for Education Kate Evan-Hughes said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Cornwall to get creative, whilst delivering an important message to some of the worlds leaders.

“The competitions are open to anyone of school age and you can enter through a school, youth group or as an individual.”

The project is being coordinated with the support of Kernow Education Arts Partnership (KEAP), Pictures must be at least A4 in size and poems are open to creativity. 

There will be 2 short films available from 20 April on the Y7Cornwall website to help inspire young people and suggest some ideas for starting points, coordinated by Kernow Education Arts Partnership with writer Rebecca Gregson and artist Melanie Young.

Entries can be submitted via the Young Persons website Home (y7cornwall.co.uk) and need to be submitted by 4 May 2021.
