What’s our local Land Trust up to?
What’s our local Land Trust up to? Lands End Peninsula Community Land Trust was set up by myself and Rob Pickering with the goals of providing homes for local people and creating a community food growing space. I’d say we’ve achieved that and much more although, delivering local housing as volunteers, is much more challenging than you might think. We now have a website so you can see what we have done and what we are still working on.
If you like what you see and want to get involved or just help us then use the contact tab on the website. Regarding the current housing project, we are trying to fill a funding gap to take a small, innovative, sustainable housing project to planning. We need at least £5,000 but with more we could get some of those post planning but pre commencement things underway. I’ve been pondering setting up a crowdfunding page but folk reading this could just donate by contacting me direct. Whilst it would be lovely if someone would just donate £5,000, it is more likely folk will be willing to chip in £5-£10 but, as the saying goes “Every little helps!” Read more on our housing project at Lafrowda Close
Work on providing a community run cemetery in Pendeen is well under way and folk can now reserve a plot there. To start generating income and encourage folk to book early the 1st 20 plots booked will be for £500! Advance Plot bookings
Our other ongoing project is the Skatepark in St Just. We raised the money to create it and are now responsible for that area of the park. Cornwall Council are still responsible for the rest of the Recreation Ground. St Just Skatepark
A larger and staffed community land trust is Cornwall Community Land Trust and, we hope we can work with them to bring more homes for local people to our area. If you own land, suitable for development, and would like to offer it up for homes for locals, why not get in touch with them (or your local land trust)? Cornwall CLT
