Midsummer Bonfire

Visitors drift off and the beacon fire dies down; National Trust keep an eye for safety purposes.

Attending the Midsummer Bonfire at Chapel Carn Brea on 23 June 2021, organised by the Old Cornwall Society was my first Mayoral duty. It was a bit chilly but quite a few turned out to keep the tradition alive. Several of us had worked hard to learn Cornish and a Cornish speaker attending reckoned I did not do bad…my Cornish husband added “…for a Londoner!”

I’m sure next year will be bigger and better as hopefully we will have left the worries of the Pandemic and gatherings behind us – hoping the weather is good too.

Well organised and well attended, considering the unseasonal cold weather and constraints of the pandemic.
