Eco Driving Record Breaking Attempt

Posted on: 23rd June 2021

I acted as a witness to Fergal McGraph and the BBC and AA Teams seeking to break 2 Eco Driving records, finishing at Land’s End on 4 July 2021.

The Mustang Mach-E used to attempt to break the record for driving from John O’Groats to Land’s End using least amount of electrical energy and shortest charge times.

I must admit, when asked to attend, as Mayor, to witness their arrival, I was a little unclear of the purpose other than perhaps wanting some-one ‘local’ (and as a Londoner that would be a little ironic) in the publicity but I really was an official part of the record attempt!

As a Councillor, from time to time, I get asked by residents to witness stuff that needs a trusted figure to sign (yes, Councillors are often in that trusted category). Well this is what I was needed for. I had to complete a Guinness book of records form for them, witnessing various details about their arrival and information from the car. I can confirm they have taken both at least one of the records from Tesla. Full details: Ford’s Eco Record Drive
