Pendeen affected by First Bus changes

I was shocked to discover that First bus had decided to alter the route of the 10/ 10A and that, from Sunday 3 November 2013, it will no longer travel between Boscaswell Corner and Portherras Cross or up North Road. This is a commercial bus route. This means that no money from Cornwall Council helps fund it and this is why I did not discover the change until the new bus timetable was published.

I am worried that some people along that stretch will not be able to walk to the bus stop opposite the village shop and ask that if you or some-one you know is affected, do ring our 2 community transport services to find out how they might help.

With immediate effect the Douglas Woolcock Transport project has agreed to offer an ‘on demand’ service between Pendeen and St Just. They can be contacted on 01736 788265 to book this. I would also encourage people to ring the Community Bus Association, on 01736 787385, to let them know any other travel needs from any of the local local villages and hamlets. I am willing to support Community Transport projects, from my community chest fund, to help reduce rural isolation.

On a possible positive note, I understand that West Penwith Community Bus Association are running a service from St Just to Penzance, via Sancreed and that the same bus will be heading from Penzance to Hayle via St Erth so some are seeing this as a silver lining to the otherwise grey bus clouds!
