Hands Off Our Fire Service & Give Us Our Police

Hands off our Fire Service & give us our Police was the loud and clear message to Government from Cornwall’s Full Council meeting last Tuesday.

To recap, I took a motion to Full Council, in response to the Government persisting with their idea of increasing the powers of Police and Crime Commissioners, by giving them responsibility for Fire and Rescue Services. For those wanting to see the detail of this, follow the link to a previous blog Motion to Council.

Not only did I get cross party support for my motion but also, I was encouraged to go further. On the day, my motion was broadened and approved to seek that control of Cornwall’s policing move from the Police & Crime Commissioner, based in Exeter, to us in Cornwall.

It was an interesting debate which you can catch up on by going to item 15d on the link Fire & Rescue motion

Protests over closing Police Station’s front desks in Cornwall were ignored by Police and Crime Commissioner, based in Devon.

Since then, I have been on radio Cornwall, interviewed for radio Penwith (going out Monday) and even got a phone call from a prospective PCC candidate for Labour, wanting my views on policing in Cornwall!
