Buses For St Just & Pendeen

Posted on: 28th September 2013

Attended an informative meeting and the situation is – do not believe all you read or listen to on this topic. Negotiations are ongoing with bus companies but it looks like all communities served now will continue to be served. Some routes and timings will change but I hope we will not have a situation where people become stranded locally, even if some areas sadly get fewer buses.

Something I learned is that some bus routes are ‘commercial’ which means the bus company runs them without subsidy. The Council cannot control what bus companies do with these although it does seek to influence and then seeks to provide other services to plug gaps with subsidised buses.

I have asked that councillors be updated on negotiations at a local West Penwith Community Town & Parish Forum on 10 October at 7 p.m. at the Guildhall, St Johns Hall, Penzance. I await the agenda to know whether it has been accepted.
