Andrew George M.P has won his campaign for rail improvements for Penzance
Andrew George M.P has won his campaign for rail improvements for Penzance. He is hailing a Government announcement, due to be made tomorrow, as a success and down to the support of many local people and the efforts of the Independent and Liberal Democrat led Cornwall Council administration. This will bring a multi-million pound investment to the local economy and will bring new jobs.
The major projects to improve rail services from Penzance include an upgrade to the sleeper service, improvements to the mainline signalling to increase service efficiency, the relocation of a Train Care and Maintenance Centre to the Long Rock depot and a Transport Interchange at St Erth. It is thought this will bring at least 60 jobs to the area.
Mr George who asked the Prime Minister about the matter today in Parliament, said, “This is fantastic news. It’s been a long time coming. But this is just a beginning, not the end to the investment we deserve. There’s a great deal more needed to improve our rolling stock and rail infrastructure so that we don’t get left behind. I will continue to campaign for the necessary investment and improvements to our rail services until we get a firm commitment from Government to provide a rail service in keeping with 21st century requirements.”
