Poor finish to the re-surface job on the A3071 from Newbridge to North Road (turning to Pendeen) is acknowledge and is going to be sorted! Note road closure details below!

Poor road surface after re-surfacing A3071 between Newbridge and Pendeen junction

Many of you have been complaining to me and neighbouring Councillor, Helen Hawkins. We have made the case (again!) that this is not an acceptable standard and that it is proving hazardous to cyclists and motorcyclists.

This is the response I now have from the Service Director in Cornwall Council for Highways:

“As you will be aware, the A3071 Newbridge road received surface dressing treatment earlier this year.

When successful, the dressing seals the existing road surface with a layer of bitumen and chippings to prevent any further deterioration of the road surface and can extend the life of the road for some years to come.

Following a period of monitoring and sweeping,  I can confirm that unfortunately on this occasion the treatment has failed; and CORMAC Solutions Ltd will be carrying out remedial resurfacing works.

The work will be carried out under a night time closure commencing Sunday 16th December between 19:00 – 06:00  & we anticipate that the work will be completed in three shifts. (Subject to the weather conditions)

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and those that reside within the closure. Traffic Marshals will be on site to direct vehicles as necessary.

I have attached a map of the intended extents and the closure & diversion route is shown below.

The road will continue to be subject to regular inspections & sweeping as necessary until the remedial works are complete.”
